Sand Pond

This is another look at a pond created by miners during the gold rush era when they used poisonous chemicals to separate the gold from the other rock. Unfortunately, those chemicals didn’t go anywhere except into catch ponds and downstream towards Sacramento and the bay area. Sand Pond is one such catch pond. Just below Lower Sardine Lake, this is a popular place for families to come and swim, sunbathe, and enjoy the water.

Don’t worry, it’s OK tho. There are signs posted letting you know. Yeah, there really are.
