Sacramento's Historic Esquire, 1940 Art Deco theater

Build in the rather bold art deco style, the Esquire Theatre is located at 1219 K Street in Sacramento, California. Just a block from the State Capitol Building, the structure is ALSO claimed to be haunted by ghosts. Grace, a small girl entity, along with a small boy that rides a tricycle haunt this theater if you are to believe the stories. ;-) The third ghost story resonates a bit more closely to me. A fellow musician was murdered just outside the theatre by robbers who wanted his money after a gig. There are Sacramento musicians who firmly believe Jim Pantages never left the site of the crime against him.

Building began in 1938 and was finished in 1940. If you look carefully (with yours eyes if you’re not colourblind and your computer if you are), you can tell where some of the original neon lighting was replaced with modern replacements and the colour don’t all match perfectly.

This piece was featured in Northern California Style with my humble thanks. :-)

A big treat for me was bestowed upon me by the “Anything Theatrical” group: this piece was featured along with the one of the Crest Theatre simultaneously, a first for me! Thank you all in “Anything Theatrical”, both staff and members! :-)
