rock wall along Highway 49 in gold country

This wall just captivated me from first glance. 150 or more years old and still standing right where it was, a little worn from the ages. Who slipped out in the night with a girl and kissed along this wall? How much money exchanged hands under its shadow? :-)

What was very interesting about this wall was that it was mostly fitted rock “face in” and seemed to have been cut roughly flat after the wall was assembled. More interesting than that, either very little was affixed with anything or it was ALL put together sans grout or morter! For the side of a two story building, that’s quite a feat and one I wouldn’t want to be thinking about while shooting the bottom of this was in earthquake-prone CALIFORNIA!
