The Flight of the Egret 2

This shot is chronologically the first in the series of the three shots I plan to post of the departing egret in the Yolo Causeway Wildlife Preserve (also known as the Vic Fazio Preserve, named for the local politician who got it created). This wasn’t the first shot posted because I didn’t find it to be the best of the set. But if you’re into how these majestic birds take flight, all the captures – taken in less than 2 seconds of each other – show the tale. Suffice it to say, without video or high speed DSLR photography, you’ll never see the details.

What’s really cool is that the earlier shots I got of egrets in the preserve were taken with my Nikon D80, comparatively a much slower camera than the D90 that captured these. There’s a strong likelihood I’ll be able to get into the same locations with both the faster camera and a tripod; these shots were VR but hand-held.
