Wood duck, McKinley Park Sacramento, CA

Wood ducks are so striking in appearance that they almost seem to be daring nature to turn its collective heads and smile. The ones in the wild are pretty skittish around me. The ones in the park will come within a few feet and patiently wait for anything you hand out. I’ve yet to hear a noise from one.
