OK, I WAS playing in the dirt! (The Truth)
This little guy was twirling around and around in the dirt like he was trying to see how fast and how deep he could go. LOL! I’ve seen small squirrels toss things in the air and run from them, go back and do it again. I’ve seen them jump at leaves like they are pretending to be cats after Mitchell (See “Mitchell The Mouse Goes Free”). But I’ve never seen a tiny one pretending to be a gopher. It was absolutely hysterical and I was barely able to get the shots without scaring off all the older squirrels scattered around.
Needless to say, Mommy was NOT going to be amused when Junior finally dragged his dirty butt home. LMAO!
PS No, this was not a “staged” shot with a dead squirrel; it was taken with my Nikon D90 at the extreme limits of the Nikkor 18-105 mm lens. If I could have taken the time, I’d have switched to the 70-300mm but there was a lot going on with hungry adult squirrels (and one CUUUUUUUUTE woman I was offering my nuts to. Peanuts, CLiPiCs. Peanuts).
